Hub Cafe: Beachfront Dining in Woolgoolga
Jono Oates spends his days a stone’s throw from Woolgoolga’s main beach enjoying delicious food and coffee. No, he isn’t on a permanent vacation, Jono is the owner of Hub Café. The newly opened eatery is settling into its prime position at the base of the new Woolgoolga Surf Life Saving Club premises. Coastbeat dropped in to check it out!
When the Woolgoolga Surf Life Saving Club unveiled its new clubhouse, President Les Pepper called for expressions of interest from people wanting to lease the ground floor kiosk/café. Multiple hospitality applicants came to the table, but Hub Café was selected as the ideal operator. Jono and Catherine Oates are long time Coffs Coast locals and own Hub’s sister café in Sawtell. They’re excited to branch out and share their fresh, coastal fare with northern beaches residents and visitors.
“We’re looking forward to meeting all of the locals and also the travellers who return to the area over summer,” Jono says. “We can’t wait to serve up Woopi’s finest food and beverages by the beach.”

The menu is inspired by offerings at the founding Sawtell café and features dishes that customers return to order time and time again.
“We’ll be serving up a marinated grilled prawn wrap and house crumbed fish and chips,” Jono says. “Another amazing option is our ‘Acai-Flow’ – it’s the base for our superfood bowl which you can have in a waffle cone you want to take it to the beach.”

Jono says he and his family have always loved Woolgoolga’s natural beauty and headland of sweeping views. Now he’s able to appreciate it every day – while getting paid!
Hub Cafe is set to be one of the best and busiest dining spots in Woolgoolga this summer. Locals and visitors are certainly spoilt for choice when it comes to cafes. Hub joins the popular Ground Earth, Bluebottles Brasserie and many more – all within walking distance.
