Disability Inclusion Action Plan Seeking Feedback
Council is inviting the community to provide feedback on its draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2022-2026 from Monday 2 May to Sunday 29 May 2022.
Council has had a Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) in place since 2017, which is reviewed every four years in line with the NSW Disability Inclusion Act 2014.
The Plan has four priorities:
- Developing positive attitudes towards disability
- Creating liveable communities
- Increasing access to meaningful employment and
- Improving access to services through improved systems and processes
“We believe an inclusive community is a strong community,” said Coffs Harbour Mayor Councillor Paul Amos.
“Providing more opportunities and choice on a daily basis is our goal and we believe it will mean a better quality of life for people with disabilities, their families, carers and the broader community.
“Ongoing community input is essential to the success of the DIAP and we’re encouraging everyone to assist us by providing their thoughts and ideas on the draft Plan.”
The draft DIAP sets out the strategies and actions Council will carry out where possible to provide access to Council information, services, events and facilities for everyone.
“This latest version of the Plan has been developed with the assistance of Council’s Disability Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee and local residents with disabilities who provided staff with valuable insight and knowledge of the challenges they face on a daily basis,” said Sonia Doohan, Council’s Section Leader Community Planning and Engagement.
“The goal of Council’s DIAP is to help address those challenges and ensure access and inclusion are key considerations in how we create liveable communities, support meaningful employment and promote positive community attitudes and behaviour.
“It covers all areas of Council’s organisation, programs and services with the aim of making the Coffs Harbour area a welcoming place for everyone.”
The community can provide input to be considered in finalising the DIAP:
