Located beside the sparkling waters of Coffs Harbour, a new venture in an old surf shop has revitalised a family’s hospitality prowess and strengthened the bonds between a brother and sister creative duo. Enter Supply Coffee – Emily and Todd McCarthy’s brainchild, pioneered by Todd’s passion for coffee roasting and their combined desire to bring the essence of Sydney’s café scene to their laidback coastal community.

The pair grew up within the family business – a Coffs Harbour award-winning, fine-dining restaurant under the watchful eye and tutelage of their parents, Shane and Cindy.  They learnt from an early age what good wait staff, table settings, kitchen efficiency and customer relations looked like.

Supply was initially a business run by his children,

however it was inevitable that Shane McCarthy would step in to lend a hand. “My dad has become the backbone of the new venture and Supply couldn’t do what it does so well without his menu shaping, systems management and diplomacy with tricky customers,” says Emily. Her mother Cindy also has a presence as bookkeeper and extra-hand on the days they get super busy.

With the location being next door to a brothel and in an area previously known as a business ‘dead-zone’, Emily and Todd could easily have been warned off but even these predicaments did not scare the likes of the McCarthy’s. The experience, passion and astuteness of Emily and her family has seen the risks pay off, no-end.

After 12 months, Emily and Todd have succeeded in creating an open-plan, industrial-chic hub for in-demand, in-house roasted coffee.

With a wonderfully innovative menu which includes review-worthy gluten-free, vegan and raw deliciousness, Supply is also a healthy choice and busy for breakfast, lunch and their weekly live music events.

And if that’s not enough, Emily continues to spread feel-good vibes, setting the benchmark for positive change in the community with The Melting Pot Loft, upstairs from Supply. Here, Emily and others teach yoga, Pilates and Barre classes and provide a space for collaborative creativity. Supplied, indeed!
