Tim Freedman – Sawtell and South West Rocks

It has been a slow process – with more than a few false starts – but live entertainment is starting to return to something like normal after being stopped in its tracks by COVID-19 12 months ago. After what has been an unimaginably difficult year for artists, their support staff, promoters and venues, more shows are now going ahead, and audiences couldn’t be happier. Tim Freedman is one of the biggest names to play the Mid North Coast in some time, with shows scheduled at Sawtell and South West Rocks this weekend. The lead singer and songwriter of The Whitlams is on a rare solo tour of regional venues to promote the band’s new single, Ballad of Bertie Kidd, and a new album, Gaffage and Clink. A full-band tour is planned for later in the year. It is the band’s first new music in 15 years, and for Sawtell RSL Club, Saturday’s show will be its first live music in 12 months.

Promoter John Logan says he made contact with Freedman during November’s Great Southern Nights concerts, with the singer saying he was keen to bring his music to the Mid North Coast. Logan, a driving force behind the local live entertainment scene over many years, has his hands full with a number of shows this week, a sign of the industry’s welcome recovery. Not only does he have Freedman’s shows on his books, but also performances by another Australian music legend, Russell Morris, at Woodburn Evans Head RSL Club (Friday) and Macksville Ex-Services Club (Saturday), as well as children’s entertainers Cirkus Maximas showing their skills at a series of venues this week.

Cirkus Maximas combines the talents of four young adults, Rhett Morrow, T’la Morrow, Sam Ellis and Mimi Ellis, all born into circus families, as they take their show to a new generation.
Their performances will be at Casino RSM Club (Thursday), South West Rocks Country Club (Friday), Laurieton United Services Club (Saturday) and Panthers Port Macquarie (Sunday).
