ArtWalk 2020
Artists have always been known for their original ideas and creative concepts, and in a year like 2020, those qualities have never been more important. Faced with the challenges of an extraordinary period, originality and creativity have not just been needed when painting, drawing, sculpting or photographing. They have also been used to recreate Port Macquarie’s ArtWalk 2020 festival. What has in the past been a one-night street event showcasing creativity in the Hastings region, is now a weeklong springtime celebration along ‘The Longest Footpath Gallery’.
From October 1-8, the Port Macquarie, Laurieton and Wauchope town centres will become the stage for contemporary works of artists and creatives. Discover local artists exhibiting in unconventional spaces and check out a range of more than 40 satellite events around the region as well as Artist Markets in each town centre. Businesses and their street front windows will become gallery spaces, putting the work of local artists directly in front of the locals and holidaymakers enjoying their time in the region. Among the venues will be Port Central on Horton Street, which will play host to two local artist groups, Wauchope Creative and Hastings Valley Art Association. Local artist Francessca O’Donnell is among the many creatives looking forward to seeing the streets come alive with artworks.
“ArtWalk inspires the community and supports artists and businesses,” she says.
“After the year we have had so far, ArtWalk will be a time of fun, interest and education that will enrich our community.
“The fact that ArtWalk 2020 is now a week that includes events across the whole the Mid North Coast from the mountains to the sea will ensure its popularity and success.”
